Lumen AI is a Catholic faith companion that provides daily liturgical readings, AI-powered spiritual guidance, prayer tools, confession preparation, and a global parish finder. This supplement details exactly what data Lumen collects, how it is used, and the special protections we provide for sensitive spiritual information.

Protection of Confession Notes
We understand the sacred nature of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Confession preparation notes are treated with the highest level of privacy protection available in the application.
- Confession notes are stored exclusively on your device and are never transmitted to our servers or any third party
- Notes are protected by Face ID / Touch ID and encrypted using iOS device-level encryption
- Berix has zero access to your confession notes — we cannot read, retrieve, or recover them
- If you delete the app or reset your device, confession notes are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered
- Confession notes are explicitly excluded from iCloud backup and device sync
AI Companion (Ask Lumen)
When you use the Ask Lumen feature:
- Your questions are sent to our AI provider to generate theologically grounded responses
- Questions are processed by our AI service and are not stored after the session ends
- You can use voice input to speak your questions — audio is processed by Apple's Speech Recognition framework on your device. We do not record or store audio data.
- We may use anonymized, aggregated conversation patterns to improve response quality — your identity is never linked to this data
- Lumen AI is designed as a supplementary resource and does not replace spiritual direction, pastoral counseling, or the Sacraments
Location Data & Mass Finder
The "Find Mass Near Me" feature requires location access to show nearby parishes:
- Location is requested only when you use the Mass finder feature — never in the background
- Your location is used in real-time to query nearby parishes and is not stored on our servers
- You can use the "Browse" feature to find parishes by country and diocese without granting location access
- You can revoke location access at any time in your device Settings → Lumen AI → Location
Third-Party Services
Lumen AI integrates with the following third-party services:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication, database, and anonymous analytics
- RevenueCat — subscription management and purchase validation
- Apple StoreKit — in-app purchase processing
- Apple App Store — payment processing and app distribution
- OpenStreetMap — parish location data (under Open Database License)
- AI Model Providers — for generating responses in the Ask Lumen feature
Each provider processes data according to their own privacy policies. We select providers that meet our security and privacy standards and maintain appropriate data processing agreements.
Family Features & Children
The Family Faith Hub within Lumen AI provides kid-friendly content including saints stories, family prayers, and faith activities:
- Family features are designed to be used under parental supervision
- We do not collect personal information from children using family features
- The AI companion feature is intended for adult users and parents
- Family plan subscriptions are managed through the parent's Apple ID and Family Sharing
Deleting Your Data
You can manage and delete your data in the following ways:
- Prayer journal & intentions — delete individual entries or all data from app Settings
- Confession notes — delete directly in the app (device-only, immediate)
- Full account deletion — request through the app's You → Account settings, or email admin@berix.ai
Account deletion removes all server-stored data within 30 days. Confession notes (device-only) are unaffected by account deletion and must be deleted separately.
